6 Ramadan Mocktails for Iftar

6 Ramadan Mocktails for Iftar

Ramadan is the month of fasting, reflection and community, where people are brought together through mutual faith and understanding of those less fortunate than themselves.

But many also consider it to be a time to form a deeper connection with your faith, and to thank Allah for the strength he has granted you. In this case, it is customary to celebrate your bond with Islam through a celebration either at Iftar or Eid al-Fitr.

At Wise Bartender, we are aware that celebratory drinks in England are often seen as alcoholic beverages which are Haram. But, as specialists in the alcohol-free world, we wanted to bring you some really refreshing non-alcoholic drinks to help you raise a glass with your loved ones once the sun has set.

Peach Punch

Punch is so well known as a sharing beverage that it seemed like the perfect starting recipe to recommend for Iftar. And when you’ll be craving something light, fruity and fresh, peach becomes the obvious choice of flavour.

A peach mocktail is easy as punch to throw together but that doesn’t make it any less special. Made up of pure fruit, tangy lemonade and an extra dash of chai, this really is the ideal drink to quench your thirst.

Ingredients:

Recipe:

  1. Chop the peaches and add them to a large food processor with your Punchy Peach Soft Punch
  2. Blend together until smooth and then gently push through a sieve over a bowl to remove any lumps
  3. Add the puree and raspberries to a large pitcher and top with your lemonade
  4. Stir to combine
  5. Top with a few sprigs of fresh mint

Minty Mojito

If blended fruit isn’t to your liking and you prefer the sound of the fresh mint garnish then this recipe might be more your style. Our alcohol-free twist on a classic mojito completely removes alcohol from the equation and instead replaces it with our favourite Lime and Basil Sparkling Drink.

Trust us when we say it really packs a punch!

This drink is a spot on accompaniment for almost any meal so whatever you’re eating at Iftar, try it with a marvellous Minty Mojito.

Ingredients (for 2):

  • Twelve Below Lime & Basil Sparkling Drink
  • Juice of 3 limes
  • 1 lime cut into wedges
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • A few sprigs of fresh mint

Recipe:

  1. Crush the mint leaves and sugar using a pestle and mortar
  2. Add crushed ice to your glasses
  3. Pour over the fresh lime juice
  4. Top up with your Lime and Basil Sparkling Drink
  5. Garnish with the sugared mint leaves and a lime wedge

Lucky Lemonade

Lemonade is a wonderful base for any mocktail drink because it's tangy, it's fresh and it brings a much needed carbonated zing. It is also marvellously versatile; simply add strawberry, mint, basil or even top with an alcohol-free spirit to create something fresh and sweet at the same time.

That’s why we love to use it in punches, mocktails and especially this Lucky Lemonade Mocktail recipe that needs very little embellishment. So why not give it a go?

Ingredients (for 2):

Recipe:

  1. Blend the strawberries, lemon juice and honey together until smooth
  2. Push the mixture through a sieve into a bowl to remove any lumps
  3. Add some crushed ice to a highball glass
  4. Divide the mixture between 2 glasses
  5. Top up with your lemonade
  6. Garnish with a lemon twill for an extra pop of flavour

Mango smoothie

A smoothie that is packed to the brim with fresh fruit is a fantastic drink to whip together at dusk ready to be drunk as soon as the sun is down. Not only is it fantastically refreshing and wonderfully creamy, it is packed to the brim with fresh fruit to swiftly get some healthy sustenance in your system.

The best thing about this recipe is that it can be easily scaled up to serve multiple people which makes it ideal for serving to your friends and family at Iftar.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of fresh/frozen mangoes
  • 1 fresh banana
  • ½ cup of milk, or a dairy-free alternative
  • ½ cup of yoghurt or dairy free alternative
  • Plenty of crushed ice
  • Tip top tipple advice: Try adding frozen banana instead of ice to avoid a watery texture and flavour.

Recipe:

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a blender
  2. When the mixture becomes creamy, pour into a large glass

For an extra zing, you could consider adding a small amount of fresh chilli to your taste, or a splash of Pimento Ginger & Chilli Drink.

Milkshake Marker

If you’re not a fan of our fruity favourites and would prefer to devour something rich and creamy then look no further than a salted caramel milkshake. This definitely is not a drink to have every evening during Ramadan due to its high sugar content, but if you fancy a decadent drink during Eid al-Fitr then this might be the right drink for you and your loved ones.

Ingredients:

  • 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • ½ cup of milk or dairy free alternative
  • 3 tablespoons of salted caramel syrup
  • A few squares of dark chocolate
  • Caramel sauce
  • A pinch of sea salt

Recipe:

  1. Blend the ice cream, milk, caramel syrup, chocolate and sea salt together in a blender
  2. Pour into large glasses topped with a sprinkle of caramel sauce and sea salt
  3. Serve immediately
